Christmas is coming! And with Christmas, there come delicious yet usually unhealthy Christmas foods. Especially, of course, cookies. In order to be able to enjoy tasty cookies without ruining my clean bodybuilding diet, I need to come up with the best bodybuilding christmas cookie recipes I can. I’ve already tested some recipes in the past. The outcome, however, was usually not so tasty at all. Duh. But this year, I’m ready for a whole lot of trial and error.. so hereby I officially announce the beginning of my 2009 bodybuilding bakery project which will hopefully lead to edible results. I’ve just had the idea but I already have some ideas on which ingredients I want to use for my tests and which I definitely want to avoid.

The No-Go-List – Stuff I Don’t Want To Use

  • Sugar.. all kinds of crappy sugars won’t be used.
  • Chocolate.. no chocolate at all.
  • Butter and margarine.
  • Marmalade / jam.
  • Low quality flours. I try to use the best, affordable flours I can get.
  • Ingredients Suitable For Bodybuilding – Foods I Want To Use

  • Oatmeal! Classic bodybuilding food.
  • Corn flakes.. a store around here has corn flakes with superb nutritional values. I might also use spelt flakes from a health food store.
  • Protein powders with vanilla flavor, strawbeery flavor, chocolate flavor..
  • Nuts. Probably almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts.
  • Maybe seeds. Most probably sunflower seeds.
  • Fruits. Strawberries, bananas, apples..
  • Cinnamon.
  • Vanilla.
  • Whole eggs.
  • Low-fat milk (1,5% or 0,3% fat).
  • Quark / low-fat curd cheese.
  • Whole grain flour, spelt flour..
  • Rasped coconut / coconut flakes. I’m not sure yet, but the saturated fats from rasped coconut should be suitable for bodybuilders. You can read more about coconut fats in this post on healthy fats and further in this post.
  • Yeah, that’s a quick list containing the most important ingredients I want to use for my bodybuilding cookies. I might also try to make some muffins, we’ll see. Expect to read about the first results soon. If you have any advice or ideas (know more ingredients I should use?), be free to tell me. If you know some good (!) recipes, please tell me and I’ll check them out. Wish me luck, I’ll be in the kitchen now for round one. Icon Biggrin in Christmas Thoughts.. I Want Healthy Cookies!

Saturated fat (esp. from coconut) is the opposite of bad.

I’ll read it if I find the time. I never said saturated fats are ‘bad’ in general. No nutrient is bad or unnecessary (especially seen only from a health and not from a bodybuilding perspective). All nutrients have their use, the things that matter are the amount and the source. Certain amounts of saturated fats from nuts, seeds, meat etc. are good and needed. Coconuts contain unique saturated fats with special properties. And saturated fats from grass-fed, high quality beef, for example, are probably way better than saturated fats from low quality foods like hamburgers and fries. So I’m no anti-saturated-fats fascist or any ‘nutrient hater’ for that matter.

There are different types of cholesterol. The cholesterol from eggs, for example, is ‘good’. Example: The only reason to eat egg whites only as a bodybuilder would be the reduction of unnecessary calories (from the fats) in the last phase(s) of a weight loss diet. There’s no need to be afraid of the fats and the cholsterol in hen’s eggs.

So, technically, I’m in the ‘people who believe one nutrient is the root of all evil suck and don’t know shit about anything’ court. :>

I thought you might actually like that article since you seem to try and keep on top of anything dietary. Personally I’m in the cholesterol and saturated fats are good court.

I’ve heard protein no bake cookies are delicious. I’d assume you can make them without much trouble concerning the list, although I don’t really know the recipe.
